Our Staff
The most important aspect of any camp is the staff. At Camp Herrlich, we pride ourselves on our long-standing tradition of hiring caring, competent and experienced individuals. Our staff is carefully selected from all over the world and from our local community based on skills, maturity, values and ability to provide a positive experience for the children we service. All staff participate in a mandatory orientation at Camp Herrlich which provides training in areas ranging from emergency procedures to positive reinforcement for children. We have an extremely high retention rate for our staff members. Most of them have come up through the ranks of our programs - campers to Counselors in Training to Junior Counselors to Senior Counselors. We are so proud of them! We require all staff to participate in an intense orientation - 3 full days for Day Camp Staff and 5 for Sleepaway Camp Staff. We make sure they are trained the week before camp begins so they are as prepared as they can be before the campers arrive.

One to One Policy:
It is of utmost importance at Camp Herrlich that a safe and supportive environment for all campers be provided. We value the inclusion of all campers in our programs and are confident that having children of different abilities work together allows everyone to become better, stronger, and more empathetic campers.
In order to provide this supportive environment, we are now offering one to one counselor services for individuals exhibiting social or behavioral issues. A request for such service can be made by the parent or the camp directors. A one to one counselor will allow your child to grow within the camp structure, make new friends, and try new activities.
The fee for a one to one counselor is $200 per week, which will allow us to hire qualified and caring staff who can devote their attention to your child.
If your child is able to thrive in a larger ratio, such as 2 counselors to 10 campers, this fee may be reduced.
We want all our campers to succeed while they are with us. We also want to be flexible and adjust to the needs of our campers as they grow with us over time. We are always willing to discuss options to best suit your family’s needs.
Health and Safety
Care and safety of our campers are of utmost importance to us. A full-time nurse and fully equipped aid station are located on the camp.
All campers are required to have a SIGNED Medical Information Form on file in the Camp Herrlich Health Center. As required by the Punam County Board of Health, we must also have a copy of your child's immunization record, signed or stamped by his/her physician.
Please do not send an ill child to camp. Our nurses are available to attend to accidental injuries and unsuspected illnesses. Sending a sick child will only prolong the healing process and may put other campers at risk.
Permits and Licenses
Camp Herrlich is operated by Mount Tremper Outdoor Ministries, Inc. (MTOM). MTOM and Camp Herrlich have a permit to operate by the New York State Department of Health. The camp is inspected twice annually. Copies of the inspection reports are available upon request at NYS (Putnam County) Department of Health, 4 Geneva Road, Brewster, NY 10509. MTOM and Camp Herrlich are accredited by the American Camping Association.
